VoiceBox, Part of Wolfestone Group

On July 8, Sim Johnston, Account and Operations Manager for VoiceBox, raised £260 for City Hospice through taking part in the Cardiff Velothon.

Over the past year, several members of the Wolfestone Holdings team have been taking part in different fundraising events, raising awareness for the Cardiff-based City Hospice.

“Having only completed one ride of a similar distance in the past, I knew it was going to be tough,” Mr Johnston said.

“The heat, and the steepness of the two hills halfway in, pushed me mentally as well as physically. My calves were murder by the end, but I still managed to finish in just under six hours.

“Even with eight thousand other cyclists around me, I managed to see quite a few City Hospice riders along the way, which hit home to me exactly what I was doing this for.

“When times were hard, it was great to think that all our sweat and effort was contributing to such a deserving cause.”

City Hospice provides specialist services to patients and families facing life-limiting illness and offers specialist palliative care to patients in their own homes so that they can remain independent for as long as possible.

To help their patients come to terms with their illness, the hospice provides them with opportunities to meet others with similar conditions. They also help patients, and their families, to overcome financial difficulties.

A mountain to climb for City Hospice

All the amazing work they do, they do at no cost to the people they care for. But finding the money to fund the provision of their specialist services isn’t easy. City Hospice has the difficult task of raising £1m a year: a target which Sim and the Wolfestone Holdings team are proud to help them reach.

“It was a great experience, which I’d like to think could be the start of many bike related fundraising opportunities, but at the very least, it was a great warm up to the next challenge,” he said.

On August 3, Sim will be hitting the road once again. This time, however, he’ll be embarking on the 380km trip from London to Paris, alongside his friends and family.

All the best, Sim!
