VoiceBox: Making Videos Accessible with Audio Description
Richie Turner Associates, a leading arts and creative research consultancy, wanted to ensure video content for a project was produced bilingually, and fully inclusive for all D/deaf, disabled, visually impaired and neurodiverse people.
To ensure they had fully audio described versions of all their films they approached VoiceBox to create audio descriptions (AD) for four videos, each 7-8 minutes long, focusing on accessibility for the arts sector in Wales.
The project is part of Arts Council of Wales’ and Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales ‘Widening Engagement’ research programmes that Richie Turner Associates have been working on for over 3 years now.
Solution: VoiceBox’s experienced team crafted engaging and informative audio descriptive scripts for each video – which linguists then translated into Welsh.
These descriptions vividly conveyed the on-screen visuals, including speaker gestures, body language and presentations.
AD voiceovers, both in English and Welsh, were seamlessly integrated into the video flow, maintaining the original narrative while providing a clear picture for visually impaired viewers.
