Inclusivity with Sign Language

The use of sign language creates an inclusive society, allowing more people to participate in social and professional interactions.

In 2017, the UK Government passed the British Sign Language (BSL) act. This legislation recognises BSL as an official language. The aim of the act is to promote the use of BSL and improve access for deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the UK.

Businesses need to be aware of the 2017 act and how it can be used in the workplace. This service can be used to improve communication with your audience, as well your staff and stakeholders.

BSL is used at live events and in-person meeting to explain ideas, strategies, and new concepts. From visual aids to discussions with colleagues, sign language can support you providing accessible communication.

Varieties of Sign Language

There are many variations of sign language used across the world; two of the most common are American sign language (ASL) and British sign language (BSL).  Although both are signing for an English language, both these variations are quite different.

One of the main contrasts between BSL and ASL is the alphabet. British sign language requires a two-handed sign whereas American sign language requires the use of one hand. This alphabet is vital to understanding people’s names along with certain place names.

Importantly, British sign language and American sign language are only 30% similar.

VoiceBox, part of Wolfestone Group, can support you in applying the correct sign language to your content. By doing this you will become accessible on an international scale. This will improve engagement and increase your global profit.
